In the Garden with Allstate 

Laura Leidigh and Leidigh and Associates believe protection of a home’s garden, trees, and lawn is important, whether it is a simple yard or a space filled with flowers lovingly tended.  Allstate House and Home Insurance Company now offers a Yard and Garden Endorsement to its Homeowners Policy for residences in Georgia.  The Endorsement generally covers:

                •             Loss of trees, shrubs, plants and lawns at the residence due to certain natural occurrences (such as fire or lightning), civil actions (such as riots or commotion), vandalism, theft, or collapse of a building structure (such as a greenhouse, shed and gazebo);

                •             Loss of motorized land vehicles used at the residence (such as riding lawn mowers, lawn tractors, and utility vehicles) due to certain natural occurrences (such as fire or lightning), civil actions (such as riots or commotion), vandalism, theft, or collapse of a building structure (such as a greenhouse, shed and gazebo);  and

                •             Reimbursement of up to $1,000 per incident for expenses incurred in the removal of tree debris at the residence caused by natural occurrences (such as windstorm, ice storm, hail, or snow).

The Southeastern Horticultural Society has announced details for its 2013 Flower Show:

 What:     25^th Silver Anniversary 2013 Southeastern Flower Show & Antiques:  

                    “What’s Old  is New Again.”

 The 2013 Show will feature magnificent landscaped gardens; a juried floral design competition; noted speakers; kid’s activities; flower arranging, gardening, and cooking demonstrations; and unique garden-related shopping in the Show’s popular Marketplace and Bookstore. Proceeds benefit the Southeastern Horticultural Society.

New for 2013: Antiques!

In keeping with the theme “What’s Old is New Again,” the Show will feature antique dealers for the first time.

Featured speakers include:

•  Vince Dooley, former University of Georgia head football coach and gardening aficionado
• James Farmer, Southern author, gardener, and floral and interior designer
• P. Allen Smith, television host, designer, gardener, and lifestyle expert
• Walter Reeves, host of NewsTalk 750 AM’s Lawn & Garden Show

For an additional charge of $10, attendees can hear the following speakers in a smaller, more intimate setting, with an opportunity to interact and ask questions.

• Tara Guerard, celebrated wedding and event designer
• Peter Hatch, Director of Gardens and Grounds at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello
• Ben Page, noted landscape architect

“We’re celebrating the 25^th anniversary of one of Atlanta’s most popular events,” said Kate Chura, Executive Director of the Southeastern Horticultural Society. “This year’s lineup of exhibits, speakers, and activities is one of our strongest ever. And for the first time, the Show will feature antique dealers from throughout the Southeast.”
