Children & Family Events at the 2013 Southeastern Flower Show

Activities that took place at the 2011 Southeastern Flower Show for Children and Families in the Youth Area included:

+The Flower Show Chickens made a return appearance with 12-year old Chicken Expert Nicholas Allen on hand to answer questions.

+“Craft Activities with the Girl Scouts.” Local Scout Troop helped with ongoing crafts including making Posies, Pinecone Birdfeeders, Eggshell plantings and Busy Bee crafts.

+“Bee Time” Metro Atlanta Beekeepers Association explored the topic of bees.

+Juried youth competition of musical instruments made of plant materials.  The guidelines for youth entries were available here: 2011YouthSubmission.doc

+Children’s Make & Take Flower Arranging Classes were held twice each evening, and young floral designers could take home their ‘Centerpieces’, between 4-7 p.m. in the Youth Area

“Fairy Garden Workshop.” Libba Shortridge & Friends led a workshop helping young people construct Fairy Gardens. Afternoon in the Youth Area

“All About Worms.” Miss Ruth “the Worm Lady” is Ruth Kitchen from the Greening Youth Foundation, who read books, sang songs and led learning activities about how worms help in gardens.

+“Children’s Make and Take Workshops.” Home Depot experts helped kids on Saturday from 11 a.m.-12 noon and from 2-3 p.m. in the Children’s Area

+“Puppatoons” is a growing puppetry company in Metro Atlanta with entertainment and education suitable for all ages, from live shows to workshops.

+Real Live Goats: Mary and Hannah Rigdon of Decimal Place Farm Grade A Goat Dairy, Conley,Ga, provided “infofun” about “Goatscaping” with three day old baby goats and were available to answer all of your goat questions.

+“Fairy Gardening Therapy.” Libba Shortridge, Horticultural Therapist at Skyland Trail was on hand at the demo stage.
